Seed FeedersSeed feeders provide flexibility and choice in bird feeding. All of our feeders will work well with a range of seeds, including black sunflower seed and mixed feeder seed. They shouldn’t be used for peanuts; use our nut feeders instead. If you’ve only used peanuts for feeding in the past a seed feeder or two will increase both the species and the number of birds using your garden. Many birds prefer black sunflower seed to peanuts and, although it may take a few days for them to get used to the new seeds, will soon home in on a new source. Once they do, there’s no stopping them! |
Handy Tips:It is far better to feed a high quality feeder mixed seed (such as ours) or unmixed seeds. If you use cheaper mixes the less desirable seeds will be discarded immediately, the birds picking them out and dropping them on the ground. While this may attract a few ground feeding birds, much will be wasted. For tips on which feeder to choose, read the handy tips in the nut feeder section. Seed feeders, once discovered by the birds, will be emptied much faster than nut feeders so it is important to choose the right sizes for your needs. Pick the biggest size you think you could possibly need and then buy a bigger one - you really will need it! Pick a site for your feeders where the old seed husks are easy to remove, they can soon build up if you are feeding regularly. Some birds, particularly goldfinches, will come readily to feeders but find black sunflower and other bigger seeds too thick skinned. A separate feeder for the much smaller niger seeds will attract them but be warned - it may take some time! Your patience will be more than rewarded though when you have a charm of goldfinches as regular visitors. |

| Wooden feeders blend into any surroundings as natural weathering takes place, but may be damaged if you have a high squirrel population, or by aggressive feeders like woodpeckers or parakeets. All these feeders come from sustainable managed forests. |
